A-Rod belts two more HRs as Yanks blast Royals

Baseball Betting Lines

09/09/2007 - Kansas City, MO (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Alex Rodriguez hit a pair of homers to give him 51 for the season, and the New York third baseman broke a record in the process as the Yankees smashed the Kansas City Royals, 11-5, at Kauffman Stadium.

Rodriguez had a two-run drive with nobody out in the fourth inning and then in his next at-bat hit his 51st, a leadoff shot to left field in the sixth. Both were off Brian Bannister.

Rodriguez, who became just the fourth player in Yankees history to reach 50 home runs, has hit 49 of them while playing third base, breaking the major league record of 48 by Philadelphia's Mike Schmidt (1980) and Seattle's Adrian Beltre (2004) for most in a single year at that position.

Despite nursing a sore ankle, Rodriguez has hit eight homers in his last 10 games. It also gave Rodriguez 515 career homers, moving within six of Willie McCovey and Ted Williams, who are tied for 15th on the all-time list. He also joined Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris as the only Yankees to ever reach 50 in a season.

Wilson Betemit blasted a three-run homer, while Johnny Damon had three hits, including a two-run shot, for the Yankees, who remained three games ahead of Detroit in the American League wild card race. New York also pulled within 5 1/2 games for the lead in the AL East, as Boston lost at Baltimore, 11-5, Saturday night.

Andy Pettitte (13-8) was charged with seven hits and two runs over 6 1/3 innings to win for the seventh time in eight decisions.

The Yankees won their fourth straight contest and will go for the three-game sweep Sunday afternoon with Chien-Ming Wang on the mound.

Bannister (12-8), who had a four-start winning streak broken, was charged with seven hits and seven runs in five-plus frames.

Shane Costa and Emil Brown each had two RBI for the Royals, losers of four in a row.

Betemit walked with one out in the third, and with two down Damon blasted his 10th homer of the year.

Bobby Abreu doubled to start the fourth inning. Rodriguez, who has already established a Yankee record for most homers in a single season by a right- handed batter, then blasted a 3-1 offering from Bannister over the wall in center field. That gave the Yankees a 4-0 lead.

Brown doubled in two runs in the bottom of the inning, but Rodriguez struck again in the sixth, a shot to left leading off the frame.

It was only the start of a big inning for New York, which sent 12 men to the plate, scoring seven times. Hideki Matsui was hit by a pitch and Jorge Posada walked. Ryan Braun then entered from the bullpen, and one out later Betemit homered to center field.

Melky Cabrera singled and Damon doubled, and another run scored on Alberto Gonzalez's fielder's choice. Abreu doubled in two more for a 11-2 margin.

Rodriguez was hit by a pitch in the eighth and was pinch-run for by Shelley Duncan.

Costa, in a pinch-hit role, grounded out to force a run in the eighth. Mike Sweeney singled in a run in the ninth, and another Costa groundout accounted for the final margin.

Game Notes

Pettitte passed the 2,500 innings pitched mark in his career...Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter left the game in the fifth inning due to right knee stiffness...It's the third time Rodriguez has hit at least 50 homers in a season. His career-best was 57 for Texas in 2002...The Yankees are 8-1 against the Royals this season and 15-3 since the start of 2006.

Marlins could start season without No. 2 starter Johnson

JUPITER, Fla. -- The Foorida Marlins are preparing for the likelihood that right-hander
Josh Johnson won't be ready when the season starts April 2.

Grapefruit League action starts Wednesday, but Johnson, penciled in as the No. 2 starter, hasn't even thrown off a mound at full speed since September. He's experienced some soreness in his right forearm.

MySportsbook.com have the Marlins listed with baseball betting lines at +800 to win the NL East this season .

''You guys know the math. If he's not on the hill then he becomes an opening day roster issue,'' manager Fredi Gonzalez said Saturday. ''We're borderline now.''

Johnson, who finished 12-7 with a 3.10 ERA in 2007, was supposed to throw on flat ground Saturday. That was canceled when he woke up with pain.

He played catch on Wednesday with no pain but felt discomfort in a throwing session on Thursday. He's expected to try again Sunday.

''Like we always said from the very beginning, we're going to take it easy on him,'' Gonzalez said. ''He didn't feel right, so we shut him down. We're going to take it back to step one and see where we're at.''

Among the candidates to take Johnson's spot in the rotation are left-hander Chris George and right-handers Yusmeiro Petit and Jose Garcia.

Right-hander Sergio Mitre, who missed most of last season with arm and shoulder problems, also is behind.

With Johnson's status doubtful, Gonzalez said right-hander Ricky Nolasco will stay in the rotation and no longer will be considered a candidate for closer.

Super Bowl XLIII Betting - Super Bowl 2009

Super Bowl 2009, the Arizona Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Let’s take a look at the Super Bowl 2009 betting odds and the betting line and figure out where they’ve been and where they are going to go.

MySportsbook.com put up the Super Bowl 2009 betting odds late on Sunday night with the Pittsburgh Steelers favored by 6.5 points and a total betting line at 47.5 points.

Since then, however, the Super Bowl 2009 betting odds have seen a good deal of movement and you’ll want to be on top of where they are likely to move to make sure you get the best line value for the big game.

Since opening, the Super Bowl 2009 betting lines went to Steelers -7 in the span of roughly 3 hours but were quickly bought back down just minutes later to 6.5 again.

After that is took about 5-6 more hours before the betting line went back to -7 where it has sat for a while now and is likely to remain. The opening betting total of 47.5 was bet down right after the line became available and went to 47 within minutes.

Roughly a day later it has been bet even further down to the 46.5 tally it currently is set at.

Roughly 60% of gamblers seem to be on the Cardinals here so the point spread will be bet down and a 7.5 would not last very long at all with many taking the early 6.5 in hopes of finding a potential middle in the Super Bowl 2009 betting odds.

If you like Arizona and see a 7.5, I’d take it as soon as possible because it’s unlikely to last. For Pittsburgh backers, the -7 might be the best you’ll be able to find but a 6.5 is definitely possible close to game time.

Regarding the Super Bowl 2009 betting odds for the total, most tracked gamblers are already on the over and with those who took the under 47.5 already securing a middle on the over 46.5, the only way I see it moving is back up to 47 so if you like the over, I’d recommend betting now.
