The surgery was performed by Dr. Steven Camer and Dr. Farhat Homsy and assisted by Celtics Team Physician Dr. Brian McKeon. Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Red Auerbach, who was responsible for bringing 16 world titles to the Boston Celtics and coached the team to nine NBA championships from 1957-66, passed away Saturday at the age of 89. Auerbach, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame as a coach in 1969, is tied with current Lakers head coach Phil Jackson for the most championships in league history.
